Common Themes In Joycean Fiction

Note: These themes are general guidelines that may not apply to all writers on the list or otherwise.

  • Purposeful genreswitching, or genrebending
  • Excessive use of allusions, puns, and private jokes
  • Excessive use of stream of consciousness technique
  • Portrayal of sexual themes as ominous and threatening
  • Imposition of artificial boundaries and rules upon one's own writing
