United States Special Powers Command
Established in 1947 as the United States Extranormal Studies Group at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico as part of the military reorganization mandated by theNational Security Act of 1947 , the United States Special Powers Command is the Unified Combatant Command charged with overseeing the various metahuman combat, intelligence, research and support elements that exist throughout the seven uniformed services of the United States, including the United States Armed Forces.
The current headquarters of the SPC is located at Nellis Air Force Base outside Las Vegas, Nevada. It was moved to Nellis from Cannon AFB in 1962 shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis. President John F. Kennedy and his brothers Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Edward Kennedy (all of whom were mutants) were present for the ceremony. It was during this relocation that the group was officially renamed the U.S. Special Powers Command, but for purposes of secrecy maintained the former title for all outside/non-secure interactions with the general public.
After the events of Revelation Day and Operation Silver Shield in late 2017, the SPC (along with its Federal/civilian counterpart, the United States Department of Extranormal Affairs, or DEXA) were authorized to reveal themselves to the world at large. However, like other military organizations such as the Joint Special Operations Command, SPC maintains a high level of security and secrecy in relation to almost all aspects of its operations. However, due to the wishes of the current President, there has been a loosening of information about base-level SPC operations.
The current Commander, Special Powers Command (or COMSPC - pronounced as 'COM-SPEAK') has not been revealed at this time.
