Amanda Lane and her two youngest children

Amanda Lane is Jane Lane's mother, wife of Vincent Lane, artist specialising mainly in ceramic sculptures, not often seen, more or less an opposite of Helen, indicated in Lane Miserables by Jane's comment when asked by Helen if they have any rules at the Lane house, that "There is the one about not building fires in rooms that don't have fireplaces."

In the broadcast episodes, it appears that her workshop is in the basement of the house. However, the map of Lawndale in "The Daria Diaries" indicate it is in an old bomb shelter.

The Lanes' attitude towards parenting was described by Jane herself as "benign neglect."
