Daria 2007: The Girl from Hope

From DariaWiki

Daria 2007: The Girl from Hope is a story written by The Angst Guy. The premise of the story is twofold: the story makes use of the changes in culture, technology and history that have occurred since Daria went off the air in 2002 (written in 2006 but setting the story in 2007, ten years after the show first aired).

Daria Morgendorffer and Jane Lane are considered virtual delinquents, with Daria transferring to Lawndale High from Highland's Hope High School instead of Highland High. Many current events (school shootings, 2000 U.S. election, 9/11 terrorist attacks, Iraq War) are referenced and made integral to the story's plot, such as Trent Lane serving overseas in the war and Angela Li being far more in her element when it comes to paranoid security. In the Author's Notes, TAG said: "Behind the story lurks a pet theory that high technology produces an acceleration of events—i.e., things happen faster and more frequently and in advance of when they would occur without technological aid."

Hope High School was supposedly more dangerous than Highland High. In the show Beavis and Butt-head, an angry Coach Buzzcut once threatened to send the two to Hope High, where they would supposedly "get their asses kicked" on a regular basis. In this story, Daria's sarcastic nature inadvertently leads to a tragedy that gets her sent to Hope.
