Serial fics occur when a writer posts ~~his~~their fic on a message board in installments. After each installment is posted, the patrons of the board can comment on the story. The author then posts the next part, and the cycle continues until the work is complete. The author then cleans up the fic, using the comments given on the board, before sending it out to the fan websites.
