Arriving at the art camp, Jane is very turned-off by [[Daniel Dotson]], the self-aggrandizing main teacher. She befriends [[Alison]], an older female artist who is nice and shares Jane’s low opinion of Dotson. The two start to bond, especially when the other students dismiss Jane for her youth and strong opinions. However, it turns out this good relation was just a plot for Allison to try and sleep with her, leaving Jane hurt and confused.
Meanwhile, at Lawndale, Quinn’s attempts to study with her tutor, [[David Sorenson]], have a bad start. During their initial study session, as Quinn pays more attention to trivial interruptions than to the teacher, David is ready to quit, berating Quinn for lack of trying, lack of knowledge and superficial interests and concluding she does not belong in college. This shocks Quinn into explaining her desire to improve her PSTAT scores and begging David to stay, promising to do better. David’s interactions with the rest of the Fashion club are not as good: he tries to tutor Sandi, only to walk out when she dismisses his teachings and serious attitude; Tiffany prefers to spend tutoring time applying make-up, barely paying attention when he leaves; and Stacy is the only to make an effort, but her lack of self-confidence combined with feeling left out when Sandi and Tiffany don’t told her they had quit eventually make her quit tutoring too.

This scene is watched by Helen from the living room window, who happily reminisces about the changes undergone by both her daughters during the summer. Jake’s answer is first apparently clueless... before he smiles, indicating he’s making a joke (something he had not been capable off during the whole summer). He then proceeds to (off-camera) chase his wife around the house for some old couple’s fun.

Firstly, Daria begins to "come out of her shell" in the sense that she opens herself up to Tom more by the end, after Tom noted earlier in the film that Daria was reluctant to do so out of fear of being vulnerable. Towards the end of the film, Daria quietly admits under the mumbling of her own breath that Tom was right and agrees to give him a chance in spite of her own feelings about Tom's family and social rank. Jane's further encouragement about giving Tom another chance allowed Daria to reach a point where she could step out of her comfort zone and give Tom a ''real'' chance at a meaningful relationship. This concept is built upon as Daria and Tom date throughout the fifth season, in episodes such as "[[Sappy Anniversary]]", "[[The Story of D]]", "[[One J at a Time]]", and "[[My Night at Daria's]]".

When Quinn began to feel ''genuinely'' attracted to David, it proved that there is more depth to Quinn than just the "superficial popular girl" gag that had carried on throughout much of the series. Her newfound intellect as a result of David's tutoring also separates Quinn from the rest of the Fashion Club. This concept is built upon in the fifth season, in the episode "[[Lucky Strike]]", when Quinn has to answer a short essay question on Romeo and Juliet and surprises herself when she already knows the play by memory. The film also sees the first time ever in which Quinn stands up for herself against Sandi. During Mr. DeMartino's history class, Sandi insults Quinn after she gave a detailed answer on Manifest Destiny (an answer Quinn learned from David's tutoring). Normally, Quinn would cave to Sandi and try to get on her good side. However when Quinn fires back, Sandi is taken off-guard, as this is the first time Quinn has ever stood up to Sandi directly. This trend continues in the fifth season, in the episode "[[Fat Like Me]]", when Quinn and the other Fashion Club members challenge Sandi on her Fashion Club guidelines. In "[[Lucky Strike]]", when Sandi insults Quinn for getting a B+ on her essay, Quinn fires back by telling Sandi she would have gotten a good grade if she actually tried (ouch!).
