Janet Barch is a fictional animated character who frequently appeared on MTV's animated series Daria. Ms. Janet Barch was a Science teacher at Lawndale High, but too often her teachings would be corrupted by her deep harboured resentment of all men, actualized by her divorce from her husband of twenty-two years. Almost everything she said on the show would inevitably digress into ravings about how her husband left her, or about men in general, and she would regularly give lower grades to male students, to "punish you for the crimes of your gender!". Her passionate relationship with colleague Timothy O'Neill was based initially on the attraction of a man with sensitivity, a concept she found paradoxical (cf. "The Daria Hunter"). In said relationship, she was extremely domineering and assertive, but the situation seemed to work well for both parties.
