In a '''nextgen''' (or TNG) ''Daria'' fanfic, the stars are characters who are now, or were in the original series, younger than the ~~primary~~major series characters (Daria, Jane, Quinn, etc.). They are, in essence, the "next generation." The story is usually set [[post-canon\|after]] Daria and Jane have graduated high school, allowing the younger characters to take their places.
