Named for <i>Star Trek: The Next Generation</i>. In a '''nextgen''' (or TNG) ''Daria'' fanfic, the stars are characters younger than the primary characters (Daria, Jane, Quinn, etc.). They are, in essence, the "next generation." The story is usually set after Daria and Jane have graduated high school, allowing the younger characters to take their places. Some nextgen stories feature the future children of Daria or Jane (or other characters) in their own adventures.
