A Time for Every Purpose is the 12th story in the John Lane series by Richard Lobinske and includes events mentioned in the episode "That Was Then, This Is Dumb".

When Jake and Helen's old friends Coyote Yeager and Willow Yeager come for a visit, John finds himself giving up his room for the guests and sleeping on the sofa while hoping that Zachary and Taylor don't terrorize the Yeagers' dog Leary too much.
