Six years after Daria’s adopted children left Earth, an alien assassin appears at her home on the eve of her annual trip to the Montana cabin. Daria and Jane are on the run and a new rebellion threatens the fledgling alien democracy. On the Folk homeworld, Daria agrees to face trial for her decision to find an host substitute for her daughters, an act considered heretical by one religious faction. On Earth, O'Neal, actually an agent for a government agency that deals with aliens, teams up with a Folk intelligence officer to investigate a leak between the agency and some of the forces aligned against Daria and her daughters.
