The Sound of the Other Shoe follows Reunions in the Submariner Series by Wildgoose. The story begins with Jane concerned about her son's apparent lack of interest in girls. In response to somewhat feeling their age and the need to take a break, Daria and Trent, along with Jane, go on a vaction to the Bahamas, with a recommendation from Kathryn about a nice, secluded beach. Their now-adult children stay home to keep an eye on things. While away, the feelings between Niete and William grow to a romance, and with Kathryn's help (and sacrifice), they get married. At the secluded beach, Daria rescues a Fey who was trapped in a fishing net during childbirth.
