An area of military jurisdiction designated after the events of Black Saturday (as described in the serial fic Apocalyptic Daria, the First Military Section is under the direct command of Major General Bartholomew J. Simpson, by means of a direct Presidential Order.
The First Military Section is composed of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the States of Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and Delaware. The area of the 1st M.S. has been divided into four specific zone designations:
Dead Zones
Dead Zones are areas which have been hit by nuclear weapons and rendered uninhabitable. 1st M.S. are:
- Washington, D.C. and all areas within 35 miles of the capital
- Norfolk, Virginia and all areas within a 30-mile radius
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and all areas within a 25-mile radius
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and all areas within a 25-mile radius
All dead zones are off-limits, with plans to seal them off. Any unauthorized person or persons found in a dead zone will be shot on sight.
