It also serves as the setup for the follow-up series, Mourning in the Burbs, though the latter story doesn't directly reference this one.

Getting Out From Under It took home a lot of awards in the Daria 2021 Fanworks Awards, including Favorite Overall, Favorite Science Fiction/Fantasy/Supernatural/Horror, and tying for first place with EntrancedCat's Jake, Jake, Fragment and Shake for Favorite Character Development/Redevelopment/Growth. It was also nominated for Favorite Drama.
