Lessons of Spring is the 7th story in the John Lane series by Richard Lobinske and includes events mentioned in the episodes "Road Worrier" and "The Teachings of Don Jake".
When Trent and Jesse invites Daria and John to Alternapalooza, Helen and Jake only reluctantly agree to allow Daria to travel overnight to the concert, especially after Daria talks them into allowing Trent to drive Helen's SUV instead of the Tank, which, of course, means that they actually reach the concert.
When Jake discoveres how much money Quinn spent shopping instead of attending the concert, he suffers a burst blood vessel in the eye, resulting in Helen deciding that they need a camping vacation to get away from it all.
