New Model Year is the 3rd story in the John Lane series by Richard Lobinske and includes events mentioned in the episode "This Year's Model". Soon after Daria's 16th birthday, the Amazon Modeling Agency arrives with "complimentary" modeling classes. After a comment from John, Daria is chosen by Romonica DeGregory to be on stage during the class in retaliation for her comments about the agency's scam.
The gentleman's clubs Jiggle City and We 'B' Babes are mentioned here by John as examples of the seedier side of modeling and the location where he once saw Eric Schrecter enter as a customer.
