A type of fanfic, named for Star Trek: The Next Generation, the setting of which took place one generation after the original Star Trek TV series. In a nextgen (or TNG) Daria fanfic, the stars are characters who are now, or were in the original series, younger than the major series characters (Daria, Jane, Quinn, etc.). They are, in essence, the "next generation." The story is usually set after Daria and Jane have graduated high school, allowing the younger characters to take their places. Some nextgen stories feature the future children of Daria or Jane (or other characters) in their own adventures, years after the original Daria setting.
