Synopsis
The story begins at Brittany's last day of middle school, where she receives a certificate for perseverance. Because of her struggles with attentiveness in class, Brittany believes that by receiving the certificate, she has lied to everybody at school. Thus, she resolves to spend the summer studying so that her lie might become the truth. However, as the lies continue to spread, she is held back by her friends and family, her misplaced envy of Jodie Landon and her study group, her fascination with one Jane Lane, and above all, herself.
