Appearances and Characterisation
Elsie makes only two small appearances in Is it Fall Yet?, where she displays a somewhat cynical and bitter attitude. She shows an antagonistic relationship with Tom, randomly attacking him for "quasi-rebelliousness" and getting accused by him of having "faux-jadedness".
She was the first one of the Sloanes to recover from one of Daria's jokes and start laughing, though her initial reaction (despite her cynicism) was worried confusion.
In Fanfiction
Elsie is portrayed in fanfiction much more often than her brief appearances in the series, though her age relative to Tom differs from fic to fic. She and Tom are normally written as having a sibling rivalry much like Daria and Quinn have with one another.
Notable fanfics starring Elsie include The Hallowed Halls of Fielding (AU), where she becomes Daria's best and only friend when the girl starts at Fielding Preparatory Academy, and But Now Is Found, where she becomes the best friend of a younger, alien abductee Daria.
