Great Daria Fandom Implosion of 2007
The Great Daria Fandom Implosion of 2007 was a combination of events, many of them unrelated and previously announced as far back as the fall of 2006, that led to the loss of a number of long-time Daria fans and writers, and the loss or dormancy of various major websites supporting the fandom. (Dormancy here means the website was no longer updated.) Curiously, the Implosion took place slightly over ten years after Daria first aired.
Among the website casualties were:
- Contrarian's Corner: outside contributions refused after 7/5/07
- Daria Fandom Blog: dormant after 7/31/07, slated for removal 8/07
- Glitter Berries: dormant after 12/14/06, future uncertain
- Outpost Daria: dormant after 5/20/07, future uncertain
The Daria Shrine, The Green Sink, Sh33p's Fluff, and Sick, Sad World had not been undated in many months by this period, further limiting the options for posting new fanworks or reading new fandom-related material.
Many long-time fans, writers, and website moderators announced they were leaving the fandom during this period, or significantly cutting back their time in fan-related activities. They included, in no particular order: Kara Wild, Kemical Reaxion, Martin J. Pollard, CINCGREEN (in his guise as Roentgen), and E. A. Smith.
