It Slipped Through My Hands, Like a Shadow, Like a Dream

Alternate-universe Daria fanfic by The Angst Guy. Daria Morgendorffer is born mentally retarded, and as a result the good things she accomplishes in her life go undone, and chaos and disaster spread. Amy Barksdale and Jane Lane also appear. Alternate versions of Spare Me (Beavis and Butt-Head), Esteemsters, Cafe Disaffecto, and The Teachings of Don Jake are key parts of the story.

The depiction of Helen Morgendorffer was considered controversial in this story; see the notes at the end for details.

The title of this story was taken from a line in a translation of The Odyssey by Homer (book XI, line 204), where Odysseus unsuccessfully tries to embrace the ghost of his dead mother.
