“Write Where It Hurts” was the thirteenth episode of the second season of Daria (episode number 213). It first aired on MTV on August 3, 1998.

"Write Where It Hurts" was written by Glenn Eichler.

Summary

As a sequel to reading John Gardiner's On Moral Fiction (which Daria derides by saying, "I believe Mr. Gardner feels it's the writer's duty to steer the reader toward more conscientious behavior. No matter how dull that makes the story"), everyone in Mr. O'Neill's must read one book from a list and consider that book's "moral intention." Daria tells Mr. O'Neill that she's read all the books on his list, so O'Neill gives her a special assignment to write a story with moral dimensions.

Trivia

  • Near the beginning of the episode, Daria is shown reading John Gardiner's On Moral Fiction in the Morgendorffer kitchen.
  • Her first idea is a parody of the film "The Graduate"
  • Her second seems to be a parody of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
