Martha Peters is a fictional character in Doggieboy's Apocalyptic Daria. She is the mother of Martin Peters and wife of John Peters.

While Martha has no problem with Martin's friendship with Daria, she is horrified at the idea of a possible romance between the two and has taken steps to stop it. She believes that Martin has a calling to be a preacher and that Daria's involvement with him would disrupt that.

The fact that Martin does not want to be a preacher has not fazed Martha's belief that his calling will be fulfilled. Martha also has a problem with 'secular' entertainments, as she had a heated discussion with her son over his watching the film Logan's Run due to the nudity of the actress Jenny Agutter.

It was revealed that Martha has long suffered from some form of mental illness, which may have fueled her beliefs about her son and which caused her to act out in as-yet unrevealed manners to drive female admirers away from her son. When she tried to force Daria away from Martin - going so far as to do such things as confront him in front of a group of parishners and demand to know if he and Daria had been intimate, as well as burst in on a married couple having sex because she believed that it was Daria and her son - she was censured by the church elders and put on warning. In response, Martha was caught up in a psychotic episode, during which she shot and killed her husband (setting the family home ablaze and leaving him inside to die) and Glen Bates, then shot another woman and nearly killed Daria before being shot by Odell Jones (an act which would have future repercussions).

Martha escaped from the area, but was attacked and killed by a pack of feral dogs in the wilderness. Her body was later found and buried by a search party from Carthage; it is strongly insinuated that the dogs fed upon Martha's body after killing her.

Martha has a sister, Mary, who is a professor at George Washington University and had planned to attend a field trip with her students to Mount Vernon on Black Saturday. Her fate is unknown.

Trivia

Despite appearing in only one fan fiction, Martha is considered one of the most recognizable fandom characters ever created in Daria fan fiction. She shares this honor with Lynn Cullen, Veronica Morgendorffer and Karen Myerson.
