Geoffrey Arend (born 28 February 1978) is an actor and voice actor who provided the voice for Upchuck after the first season of Daria, as well as various minor characters (who all tended to be creeps in some way).
He graduated in 1996 from the LaGuardia High School of Music and Art in New York City and is thus one of the actors Glenn Eichler found by "having to troll the High School of Performing Arts for first-timers." Daria was his first acting work.
He has had numerous roles in television and film since his tenure on Daria, including guest appearances on the television series Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and the films Bubble Boy, It Runs in the Family and Garden State. Most significantly, he played series regular Ethan Goss in Body of Proof, McKenzie in (500) Days of Summer, and regular Matt Mahoney in the ongoing Madam Secretary
Other Daria Characters Played by Arend
- The Assistant Bursar in College Bored ("You play the ponies, Jake?")
- Danny (Quinn's victim customer for phone card sales) in Cafe Disaffecto
- The Car Salesman in Partner's Complaint
- Leonard Lamm in Fizz Ed
- Ken Edwards in Lucky Strike ("Oh, Tiffany... Tiffany... I never got to hear you call me 'Ken.'")
He is married to Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame, having met via her co-star Vincent Kartheiser. She stated at the time "He’s considerate, he’s thoughtful, he’s smart, he takes care of me. He’s not full of himself. He’s very, very giving", and elsewhen that he's funny and charming. So, nothing like his characters.
