Some fanfiction writers have included pets as characters in their stories. In some tales, they are not really pets and only pretend to be, being highly intelligent. Sometimes the pets can speak.

These critters include:

• Alabama. In some stories featuring Evelyn Veronica Morgendorffer, Alabama is the pet ferret of her best friend Vidalia Johanssen. Alabama acts as if Evie is his mistress, following her instructions and wanting to sleep in her bed.

• Benji is Dr. Kathy Wilson's terrier in Apocalyptic Daria by Doggieboy.

• Bump. Bump is Daria's foundling cat in Falling Into College, by Richard Lobinske.

• Buster. Buster is a beagle belonging to Anthony DeMartino in A Little Vacation by Doggieboy.

• Cheyenne. This 150 lb German Shepherd is the seeing-eye dog of Maria Macleod in the Unseen Phenomenon series by Wildgoose

• Damien. This is a black bull terrier/cocker spaniel mix nominaly owned by Axl as a guard dog but adopted by Mystik Spiral in the John Lane series.

• Elvira. She is Karen Myerson's black mare in "Falling Into College".

• Fluffy. This is Sandi Griffin's cat, mentioned only in "The Misery Chick."

• J.B.. J.B. is the bulldog of background character Dawn in The Angst Guy's story, "A Hard Days' Night." He is also the dog Daria almost hit in the episode, "Through a Lens Darkly."

• Joyce. Daria's cat in Ruthless Bunny's series, Bed and Breakfast Man, is named Joyce.

• Leary IV. Coyote Yeager and Willow Yeager's German shepherd (from "That Was Then, This Is Dumb") was featured in Paws Force Power Rangers by Brother Grimace.

• Night. She is the clone of Bump in the story, A Legend of Rebirth created by Derek and Karen after the death of Bump.

• Opie. At one point in the Tales of Young Daria series by Galen Hardesty, Daria owned an orphaned opossum. Opie has also appeared in numerous ficlets.

• Roger the Mouse. This rodent is featured in "Scarlett" by The Angst Guy. Roger is the mouse from Daria and Kevin's experiment in "The Lab Brat," adopted by Scarlett, also known as "the ankh girl."

• Sparky. A housecat owned by 22-year-old Robert Nelson in The Cynic and The Defender by Doggieboy.

• Taylor. One of the Lane cats mentioned in The Daria Database that has been used in several stories.

• Zachary. One of the Lane cats mentioned in The Daria Database that has been used in several stories.
